A breeding resident. Fairly common, both across the Waterberg and in the surrounding thorn savanna (52% in, 48% out; recorded in 61% of the Waterberg pentads). In the Waterberg this species is wholly dependent on the scattered tall palm trees that are found in towns and around farm homesteads for breeding and roosting; the birds range widely from these during the day to feed but return nightly to them to roost; they are gregarious, several pairs often sharing a nesting tree. Breeds in summer.
